KEEPING YOU AND YOUR BREASTS HEALTHY
One in every 8 women is affected by breast cancer. They are our mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters and friends. It affects us as all. October is breast cancer awareness month, so if your seeing pink everywhere, that is why. I have been fortunate to take part in the "Moms who Kick" project. I am proud and posed to be a part of this calendar along with other moms who kick. All proceeds for the calendar go to the American Cancer Society. Please show your support at www.momswhokick.org as we "kick" for the cure.(more)

ON THE GREEN
I never gave Golf much thought as a form of "exercise". In my mind it's a social, retired mans, leisure game. Then of course there's the famous Tiger Woods, who in my opinion, has made Golf look more exciting, especially to the younger viewer....which is exactly why I'm here watching my seven year-old son Devin's golf lesson. As I'm observing his lesson his instructor Joaquin Herbozo brought out 2 wobble boards for him to stand on and take a swing. Now I have worked in gyms for many years and I know how difficult it can be just to stand on them and balance-never less take a swing. By the end of that lesson Joaquin also mentioned Golf is exercise. With that being said, my interest was peaked.(more)

FOR A TIGHTER CORE...
"Pilates is here to stay!" says the gorgeous Rachelle Carson-Begley. Rachelle is a former musical theatre actress who is the wife of Ed Begley Jr. and a Pilates studio owner. I met with Rachelle the other day to talk Pilates. She has been training in Pilates since the 80's and has been teaching since 1991. Rachelle found Pilates through an acting teacher. At the time, she needed to rehabilitate her knee and it's been her choice of exercise ever since. Pilates focuses on core strength and spinal alignment while strengthening, stretching and balancing the body. It can be done on a reformer, chair or mat. Sometimes props are used such as rings, bands and spine supporters. Rachelle enjoys teaching during the day where natural sunlight is used.(more)

ON THE BALL
Working out with a stability ball is a great way to challenge your flexibility, balance and, of course, your stability. Anyone at any fitness level can incorporate one into a workout routine. Just by sitting erect on the ball, your spine is set in a neutral alignment. Use of the stability ball will improve the strength of your lower back and abdomen. And who doesn't want better abs?

"Working out with a stability ball makes the workout more efficient because it requires the use of additional muscle groups. When using a stability ball the possibilities are endless in terms of types of exercise. Because you can target every body part on the ball."(more)

LOSE THE CORD
If you want to burn some serious butter, I highly recommend Spinning. Spinning is a great eco-aerobic workout because it's done on an unplugged stationery bike. There's no electricity used which makes it a no fuel burn workout.

The greatest thing about Spinning, is that its done at your own level of fitness... just by adjusting the knob on the bike! No pressure here newbies.

"2 days later, and my legs continue to be sore - but I still feel great. What a workout! And as Nery says 'We are all on a ride through life.' Spinning is a fantastic way to get fit without leaving a big carbon footprint!"(more)

ANITA'S ECO-GUIDE TO GETTING FIT OUTSIDE
I am Anita Pressman, Envi-image's personal trainer. I am here to green your workouts! Yes green...and I am not just talking grass and leaves. I am talking lifestyle. Going "green" with your workout means getting your body in-sync with your environment. Say good-bye to using that treadmill. If you stayed off the treadmill for a whole year you'd save over 160- Kilowatt hours of energy. Think of the energy consumption used by air conditioners and fans, and other gym equipment...

"Get your butt outside and get some fresh air! The oxygen is good for your brain, as is nature for your soul."(more)
